Organic Search & SEO Services in Swindon & Bristol

Organic search is the non-paid results -the ones not marked “Ad” – that appear when a search query is keyed into a search engine. On Google these appear on the main left hand side of the results page, usually underneath a few paid-for Ads in positions at the very top.

How does Google decide where my website should appear in the search engine results pages?

Google (and other search engines) will assess a website on many different factors to determine where the site or one of its pages should appear when a relevant search term is used. Google has become so much more sophisticated now in the level and depth of factors looked at, but ultimately they want the most relevant, high quality websites to appear first. The websites that offer the best quality information, guidance and content to its audience. Here are a few pointers to what search engines look for:

  • High quality, relevant content and copy
  • good mixture of types of optimised content, ie. video, downloadable content, images
  • Information that is up to date and kept that way
  • Signals that the content is well informed and researched, such as external links to sources
  • good mixture of inbound links from a wide variety of domains
  • reliable, authoritative citations
  • good site structure shown in URLs and ontology
  • fast loading website with minimum code

Additionally, and very importantly, search engines try to increase relevancy further by delivering results that are ‘personalised’ to include such factors as:

  • the language used in the search
  • the location of the searcher, or at least of the data centre that is reached with the query
  • past search history
  • very recent search history
  • known personal preferences

How does Organic SEO work?

There are over 250 ranking factors in Google’s complex algorithms, some are more important than others and much will also depend on your competitors.

No matter what industry or sector you are in, you can be sure that providing a fast loading website with good quality content is a very good start to getting organic rankings. However, beyond that each individual case needs to be assessed on its own, in this way you can focus on improving the right things, with the right priorities.  The fact is that every company thinks their website deserves more traffic, and is good enough to deserve high rankings.  Professional SEOs know how to make a more objective and scientific analysis.

Google will always do its best to recognise the factors that make for a good site, and a good user experience of search, and create results that satisfy users.  But Google don’t care which good site gets the traffic, so long as their customers, the search users, are happy with the results.

Organic search SEO is based on a deep and broad knowledge of the myriad of factors that affect both rankings, and traffic.  We help our client sites be just that little bit more good than others, both to the way the engine recognises its various signals of quality, authority, and merit, and to the users themselves.

How long will it take?

It is important to remember that an SEO or organic strategy is a long term one. It is not something that can be achieved over night, there is no silver bullet to make you no.1 in Google for your search terms or keyphrases. It is also not something that can be achieved and then left, your competitors will ‘climb over you’ in the results if you are not constantly working on your strategy.

Things that will affect and influence the length of time it will take for your website to rank well in Google include:

  • Age of your domain
  • Competitors
  • Content and usability

But remember, it is not always essential that you rank at no.1 for a very generic phrase, for example ‘children’s books’. These we often call vanity phrases but you will be up against the giants like Amazon. We can help you to work on the longer tail phrases that will actually have a better conversion rate.

We can also help you to market your products and services using other methods whilst you build up your SEO strategy. A good starting point for any new client is to have a website and SEO audit so that we can see where you currently are and what it will take to get you where you want to be.
